The cost of running a business has never been higher. Expenses for utilities, council tax, andessential materials have surged since COVID-19 and the war in Ukraine. My Journey and the Birth of Re-Sauce

I launched my first business, Prestige Audio, in 1990 during a booming car audio era but also in the middle of a recession. In 1993, I founded BBG Distribution—again, during economic uncertainty. After selling that business, I joined the ownership team of Peerless in 2007, right in the middle of the global banking crisis. Most recently, I established Re-Sauce during the COVID-19 pandemic.


Despite these economic challenges, all of these businesses have thrived. So, what contributed to their success while so many others, despite being well-run, struggled?


The Hiring Dilemma
One of the most significant risks in hiring new employees is uncertainty—you never truly know what you're getting unless they've worked for you before. And even then, returning employees don't always work out the second time around. Building a strong team, fostering loyalty, and mentoring staff are crucial to long-term business success. The companies I've led have consistently had excellent employee retention, which speaks to the importance of leadership and workplace culture.
